What's wrong with the air today?

I was going to go bike riding on the D&L trail today, but when I woke up, I could smell a faint odor of something burning. So, I brought up the PurpleAir real-time map (screenshot below) and noticed that the air quality in my neighborhood was terrible! The air quality in the region is ALARMING! After conducting some research, I discovered that almost 14,000,000 acres (14 million acres, an area the size of West Virginia) in Canada are on fire (screenshot of the smoke map is below). 2025 is Canada's worst fire season on record. Although I haven't heard anything about the wildfires or their negative impact on air quality in the local news, I'm glad that our PurpleAir air quality sensor network is now online and working in Carbon County!

My heart goes out to all the victims of the Canadian wildfires - firefighters, families, wildlife, and even the flowers. I'll save the bike ride for another day.
