Local Leadership Stops Data Centers
In the fight against data centers, municipal governments and planning commissions want to see and hear from their residents, not outside agencies. The neighbors they see in the supermarket or at the gas station are more important than outside organizations who come in and speak at selected public hearings and meetings. To ensure the greatest impact, residents must attend every municipal government and planning commission meeting. They must be ready to present their testimony (both speaking and in writing) on why the data center will negatively impact them. To ensure success, local leadership is needed. Local leadership to establish and administer a web page or Facebook page, raise funds for an attorney, signs and supplies, and oversee the local opposition including speaker line-ups and relevant topics for public hearings. These activities can best be accomplished if there is an organization with a bank account, e.g., homeowner's association or community club. If no such organization exists, Save Carbon County can help set up a bank account and establish an organization framework for continued data center opposition.
For the upcoming public hearing regarding the proposed data center in Lower Towamensing Township, residents from Bowmanstown, Lower Towamensing, and Palmerton will have the strongest voice. It is important that affected residents attend. If you live in the area around the proposed data center, please talk to your neighbors and friends and invite them to the meeting - maybe even carpool. Showing up in large numbers is an important first step towards stopping this data center. The verbal and written testimony from affected residents will have the greatest impact and we encourage everyone to attend the hearing scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th at 7PM at the Aqashicola Firehouse on Little Gap Road. Not sure how to give testimony? Tips on how to give testimony at a Public Hearing will be provided next week... stay tuned!
