Governor Shapiro's plan to fast-track the permit process for Data Centers may soon get a dose of reality as Pennsylvania Legislators are starting to stand up for their communities and introduce bills to regulate Data Centers. Representative Jamie Walsh in Luzerne County and Senator Lisa Boscola in Lehigh and Northampton Counties are two brave officials who are intent on ensuring that data center development does not raise electric bills or overwhelm local communities. Several Pennsylvania House Bills are making their way through the legislative process, including House Bill 2150, which calls for annual reporting of energy and water consumption by data centers and imposes a penalty for failure to report - fines collected will accrue to LIHEAP in the local area. House Bill 2151 amends the act of July 31, 1968 (P.L. 805, No. 247), known as the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, regarding zoning, to assist communities with data center ordinances. Contact your elected representatives to let them know it's time for Carbon County to take a stand!
