From one end of Carbon County to the other, data centers are taking center stage. The Monday meeting at Penn’s Peak is CANCELLED. The Penn Forest Township Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB) meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, March 23rd is continued and will be rescheduled. The ZHB meeting was to address a Substantive Validity Challenge to the Zoning Ordinance that was filed by the property owners who plan to develop a data center in Penn Forest. We'll keep you posted when the ZHB is scheduled.
At the other end of the county, there is a different meeting regarding data centers tomorrow. Thanks to our amazing members, we just learned that the Nesquehoning Planning Commission is meeting tomorrow, Monday, March 23rd, at 5 PM at the Borough Office on 114 W. Catawissa Street. The purpose of the meeting is to review their Zoning Ordinance for data center development. An example is the recent data center proposed by Bitfarms (now Keel Infrastructure) at the Panther Creek Power plant facility. Members of Save Carbon County will be there to ask for changes to the ordinance to better protect wetlands, streams, and most importantly, the aquifer. If you are a Nesquehoning resident, this is an opportunity to make it clear to Borough Officials that you want an ordinance that protects our watershed.
